Our Story

We're Ottilia and Cody, founders of Intrinsic Birth. We met while pregnant during a local prenatal yoga class, formed a deep friendship during the postpartum period, and then became business partners.

After having our babies, we envisioned creating a different kind of childbirth class. We wanted to create an engaging and inclusive space where families could learn birth essentials while also clarifying their own values and desires for their birth experience.

With a combination of labor experience, teaching and curriculum development, and passion for all things parenting Intrinsic Birth was born.

Ottilia Murray, L&D RN

Hi, I’m Ottilia (she/her)!

I am a Registered Nurse and have worked in Labor & Delivery since 2014. I have attended hundreds of deliveries and love it every time. There is always something magical about the moment a baby is born - whether it be a vaginal delivery or a c-section, a first baby or a sixth baby, a quick labor or a slow one.

I had my daughter in 2019 and learned so much more about birth and postpartum from experiencing it. I knew labor would be hard work and felt well prepared for the challenges I was facing when the time came, but the postpartum period was something I was completely unequipped for. It was humbling to realize how much I didn’t know and how much harder it was than I anticipated.

I often see people start off parenthood with feelings of failure because things didn’t go according their plan - “I got an epidural and said I wouldn’t,” “breastfeeding was so much more painful than I imagined,” or “not sleeping impacted my mental health more than I thought it would.” One of my biggest goals with Intrinsic Birth is to help parents feel prepared for the unexpected, to help them ride that wave and be able to adapt and adjust to what comes their way so they feel accepting and empowered instead of blindsided and disappointed. I can’t wait to share my pregnancy and newborn enthusiasm and knowledge with you!

Cody Sigel, MPH, CHES

Hi, I'm Cody (she/her)!

I am a health educator, advocate, and a mother. I am dedicated to supporting families throughout their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum transition into parenthood. I’ve worked in reproductive health education and training for over a decade. I received my Master's of Public Health from Emory University with a focus on Maternal and Child Health and I'm a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES).

As a mother, I know how overwhelming the unknowns of labor can be. When I was pregnant, I knew I couldn't control everything about my labor, but I wanted to own my labor experience. I wanted to feel powerful, present, authentic, and connected. I did everything I could think of to prepare myself and my partner so we could feel confident and ready.

Through Intrinsic Birth, I'm excited to share not only the essential science-based information to help you feel empowered, but also to help birthing people and their partners clarify key values and needs in labor, as well as develop the skills that will allow you to advocate for what is most important to you. Your labor is yours, and only yours! I support you in your choices and your unique journey. I hope you will join us!
